HanKio at the core is an automatic annotation tool for Chinese characters, including pinyin, zhuyin, and hanviet. It later developed to integrate this core annotation tool into useful applications such as KioReader, Videos auto-transcribing and subtitling (with the help of AI voice-recognition technologies). It not only serves the demand of Chinese language learners at all stages, but can also assist the proficient/fluent Chinese language users in translation and transcription tasks, be it a regular document or a video.

KioReader takes a paragraph of Chinese texts and automatically add pinyin, zhuyin, hanviet annotations; this coupled with a built-in dictionary can provide users with a very convenient platform to read, look-up words, translate, etc., all in one place. It even integrates third-party dictionaries so you can quickly cross look up multiple sources within a click of your mouse, without having to open a new browser or turning into another dictionary application on your computer.

You may ask how precise is this annotation engine? Good question, because precisely annotating Chinese texts is not an easy task, you have to deal with words with multiple meaning, multiple parts of speech, tone converting, irregularities, etc. HanKio tackles it by first segmenting Chinese texts into small words, then annotate the words based on an internal, regularly-enriched dictionary. What makes it different from other tools? We constantly receive feedback from users and refine our internal dictionary and algorithm to minimize errors. Are there still errors in the annotation? Yes there are, as in any annotation tool, but we believe with our approach we can minimize the errors to an acceptable level.
